TITLE
Activating Clinicians to Deliver Effective Obesity Care

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
While enormous strides have been made in recent years relative to the development of safe and effective anti-obesity medications, these agents remain underused in clinical practice. There is a clear need to educate primary care clinicians about how to identify and actively treat individuals who are overweight and obese to mitigate weight-related health risks and improve overall quality of life.
In this activity, participants will be guided through a series of small group learning modules by a group leader who is a well-recognized American Board of Obesity Medicine-certified clinician in their community. The curriculum focuses on the group’s collective accomplishment of a shared goal—improving outcomes for patients with obesity via the application of the most recent evidence-based guidelines for treatment, including the use of pharmacologic therapies for the reduction of weight-related health risks.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After taking part in this educational activity, clinicians should be better able to:

  • Apply the most recent evidence-based guidelines for the identification of obesity in adults and other populations
  • Describe the underlying pathophysiology of obesity and metabolic adaptations that prevent significant, long-term weight loss and implications for obesity treatment
  • Utilize current and emerging evidence-based pharmacologic treatment options for obesity, taking into account the latest clinical trial data and updated practice guidelines
  • Implement education and principles of shared decision-making for improved outcomes among individuals with obesity
